Good morning all.
I was recently called a “huckster” by a less than kind
associate.
This veterinarian was apparently unhappy with my online
publications.
Their claim was that I give pet owners ‘false hope’, with
natural at home remedies.
Needless to say I reacted to the statements.
I would like to comment on a few of the statements.
The conventional veterinary profession is “huckstering”
more than a few things to the general public.
1. That yearly vaccines every year will keep your
pet healthy..and they have few side effects.
Vaccines have a whole host of side effects, as you all
may know..auto-immune disease, cancer, and a variety of
diseases.
They are a HUGE source of practice income, bringing
in clients year after year. Hence many practicioners
are reluctant to change.
2. That veterinary formulated ALL in One food is the
‘best’ thing for your dog or cat.
This is what I feel was a BIG KEY in my own pet getting
cancer. He was missing key ingredients in this vet formulated
food that could have prevented cancer.
3. That ONLY veterinarians are capable about making health
care decisions for your pets.
YOU as a pet ower know your pet the best. You can learn the
basics of examining your pet at home. You can provide alternate
options and use SAFE and EFFECTIVE At Home Remedies.
4. That the range of new fangled pharmaceuticals that
are marketed to veterinarians by glossy brochures are
safe, and effective and with few side effects.
Ever heard of Rimadyl? It has caused sudden death, liver and
kidney disease in thousands of dogs.
Yet few pet owners are aware of this. Or that
it was first developed for the human market, but
pulled because of the unacceptable level of side
effects.
5. That few if any of the ALTERNATIVEs work.
Herbs..a waste of time. Homeopathy..NO scientific basis.
Acupressure..NO benefit.
MOST of the alternative practices have some scietific basis
backing their effectiveness. In some cases their biggest
benefit is that they will do NO HARM, unlike things like
Rimadyl.
6. That making your pets food at home is “fraught’ with
risk.
Even though pets survived just fine on eating food in the wild
and on table scraps for hundreds of years. It is pretty simple..
Feed some protein, some carbohydrate, and some vegetables.
Add in a multivitamin, plus taurine for cats.
Thousands of North American pets are doing
very well of these ‘unbalanced’ home diets.
7. Feeding RAW food is CRAZY- it will harm your do or cat
with Salmonella or E Coli.
These health concerns are NOT well documented. I have NEVER
seen a case of these with pet owners feeding Raw.
In fact very few veterinarians period have seen these
’side effects’. On top of that dogs and cats have very acidic
stomachs which kill these bacteria, and short digestive
tracts which don’t allow the bacteria to multiply.
8. That the Internet is FILLED with ‘Hucksters’ who are
only their to TAKE you mon**ey.
Yes the internet is filled with many different business,
and a variety of business practices..As in the real world.
But I have been very open about who I am, what I do and
where I work.
You get to know, like and trust me.
I back up my products 100%
9. That the BEST way to profit in a veterinary practice
is to increase your Per Client Transaction. That means
getting you as a client to spend more at the practice.
Do you thing that EVERY diagnostic test or procedure is
in your pet’s best interest?
10. Need I say more?
