Natural Anxiety Relief

Noise Phobias, anxiety going to your Veterinarian or your groomer, are especially stressful.

Yes there are conventional options.

One of the pharmaceutical companies has come out with a neutraceutical found in Green Tea –

And it is working for many pets for anxiety.

You can get the supplement yourself at most Health stores and many pharmacies.

L-theanine is an amino acid found in green tea.

Studies show that L-Theanine produces tranquilizing effects in the brain without drowsiness. It calms by helping to increase alpha-brain wave activity, the electrical brain activity commonly present when you are very relaxed. By diminishing feelings of stress, worry and anxiety, L-Theanine may help improve mental focus, learning and concentration.

P.S. The dose is 50mg per 20lbs daily – and it can be given frequently (every 4 hours) during a stressful event.

If you have a dog or cat with a ongoing or recurring health problem, don’t you think it’s worth exploring ALL of the options… especially the holistic ones??

  1. How do you feel about Bach Rescue Remedy, it’s all natural and works great for my Yorkie to calm a sensitive stomach. Two drops on food 2’x a day. And when she goes to have her nails clipped (she’s a fiesty fighter)I give her all 4 drops 20 min. before hand. Works wonders.

  2. Diane,
I got that and took it with me (3 yrs ago) when I had to drive my cat 1+ hrs each way to the vet specialists. I was seeing a dermatologist (skin cancer) and an opthomologist. I’d asked them to take a look at the ingredients and tell me their opinion on its effectiveness. (As opposed to the tranquilizers I got from my local vet for these lone distance drives).
They said the only reason it worked was because of the alcohol that is in it. They said in the amounts it’s in there, it probably wouldn’t hurt my cat, but it wouldn’t help a whole lot either.
Another alternative (Which I’ve found since when trying to calm my one cat for his sub-Q fluids) was Feliway spray. You spray the towel they are going to be laying on, not the cat. Between that and some good classical music (for animals), he did noticably calm down more.

  3. My cat, about 5 years old, for the past 4 months has had recurring diarrhea & blood in her stool. After blood tests, clear, and stool tests, my vet sent me home with a print out regarding “clostridial entertoxicocosis”. she has been on special canned food with varied results. Now on Hills, d/d duck & pea, with a package of purina fortiflora sprinkled on top, very little dry food. Her stool has become more firm but it is still coated with blood, red, not brown, and not much mucus anymore. Her anus is still inflammed & lots of licking. She has taken to pooping and peeing wherever she is. I’m sure because her anus is irritated & her tummy feels bad. She appears better, but is their a specific or better treatment to clear up this bacteria & get rid of the blood in her stool? She has a very good appetite.
    Thanks so much, Patrice

  4. What I use for my dog who is anxious is the Anxiety wrap. I find it works great, it calms her down right away and she likes wearing it. When she’s anxious I simply put it on her and she calms down right away.
Maybe something for others to consider as well!

Here is the URL for it:

  5. I also use the anxiety wrap and find that it calms my dog, who, by the way, looks nearly identical to Dr. Jones’ dog Lewis and is just as shiny! But, after reading about Dr. Jones’ recommendation for the L-Theanine, I purchased some of the tablets from a Pet Vitamin company. I use the formula provided by Dr. Jones of 50mg per 20 lbs and it works wonderfully!

I found the tablets a bit expensive from the pet vitamin store so I purchased the capsules from Puritan’s Pride, a company that sells a good quality product for a very low price. Since the ingredient has virtually no taste, I broke open the capsules and filled a bottle with the powder. I measure out the appropriate dosage and add it to my dog’s canned food. He doesn’t even notice it!
