I too, have a daughter with allergies, and so we rescued a standard poodle, over the years, we have rescued many standard poodles puppies and full grown, and guess what we even rescued a goldendoodle, to bad the President couldn’t have done what he said he was going to do. What a message that would have sent to the world, and the many dogs that sit waiting in shelters everywhere.

I thought I would re post this blog again for those who are interested and may not have seen this.

In your articles about using herbs as an alternative to conventional medicine, I would have to agree with you that they are effective in treating diseases and eliminating parasites. As far as I am concerned medical practitioners are basically legalized drug peddlers. I have also been told that a vet has more years of study and training than most doctors. For me personally I would rather be operated on or get medical treatment from a vet than I would from a doctor.
I had mentioned earlier that I feel that many multinational food companies as well as pharmaceutical companies appear to be using are pets as test subjects before human trials. I would like to share a link from a program I watched in December about stem cell research done by a group of Sydney vets and scientists, that are using adult stem cells harvested from the patient’s own fat to treat arthritis and other diseases.
Apparently the technology is already proving successful for dogs and the scientists say it won’t be long before humans could benefit to.

Whats wrong with owning a mutt. They make the best pets. My dog is a Bull Terrier crossed with a Kelpie – Dingo cross breed, apparently a very rare cross breed.
She has a wonderful temperament and is good with children. That’s the problem with wealthy people, they want an inbreed pure breed just for status symbols.
My next dog will be a pound dog and I am not too fussy on what type of breed it is and most likely it will be another mutt.

I don’t mind that he has picked a mixed breed and I agree that it needs to be hypoallergenic for his daughter. I praise him for choosing a pound dog over a puppymill dog. However, I HATE the so called ‘designer dogs’ such as the Labradoodle. If he picks one of these, then the breeding of them will go up and the ridiculous prices that people charge for them will go up. These dogs used to be called mutts or ‘oops’ dogs for a reason – they are not purebreds. They used to be advertised in the paper as “oops, my neighbors dog got with mine, pups to good homes only…” Now due to wonderful P.R., they sell at prices higher than purebreds ($1000 to $1500 for a Labradoodle). No matter what the breed name is that he finally picks, I hope that he tells the American public that it is an All-American Dog (i.e. doesn’t name the breeds involved) so that we don’t end up with a lot of “Labradoodle’s” in pounds due to people just wanting a breed that the President has… Just my $.02 worth for whatever that is worth these days.

Hey, let’s hope for the best, and he gets a good ol’ Heinz57 variety! Let’s face it, he’s not brought it home to the White House yet! Hopefully he, or an agent, will recognize the importance in the decision, and pick a mix breed dog! HOPEFULLY!!! After all, a mix breed is a conglomeration of several different ‘Pure Breds’, so you get all the best rolled up in 1 package! Let’s hope they will make the ‘Right’ decision, as we HOPE ‘WE’ have!

It would be really nice if Obama would allowcate some money to help these poor dogs! Their giving money for other things that should be able to help themselves. Those dogs and cats in the pounds & rescue centers can’t help themselves, so I think they shold give the SPCA or SOMEBODY, maybe you Doc Lewis, that could help in taking care of this ‘Disaster’! The Big Business Groups aren’t living, breathing animals! Give the “Pets” a voice in Washington!

I was disappointed to hear President Elect Obama’s comments in the Barbara Walter’s interview about Havanese. We adopted our little Havanese when she was 13 and a half and although she is a little dog, she is definitely not yappy, as he erroneously commented.

I think a Havanese would make a great dog for his girls. They are friendly, confident, playful, quiet, non-shedding and non-allergenic, and there are LOTS of them on Petfinder.com.

Also, I think the focus should be on preventing the SUFFERING of animals, rather than just worrying about how many are euthanized. Animals suffer when they are abandoned and there are too many to be properly cared for in shelters and SPCAs. We have fostered over the years and got many dogs that had such bad behaviour problems we just couldn’t keep them – unfortunately, I’m no Cesar Millan.

We have to educate people to stop breeding and buying dogs, and to focus on the millions of animals that are suffering out there because people don’t think about the ramifications of their actions.

The president and all kill shelters should espouse the changes in Redemption by Nathan Winograd founder of The No Kill Advocacy. The persisent myth of pet overpopulation spread by PETA and the Humane Society of the United States is just that a myth.
The changes thatare espoused by the No Kill Advocacy are amazing but have met resistance.

Since it’s the Obama administration’s desire to
socialize The USA, then perhaps he will advise his Agriculture Secretary to make it a federal offense to operate a puppy mill in all 50 states.

And let’s not forget to stop this nonsense of bringing elephants, tigers, snakes, etc for the sake of “entertainment”! This circus baloney is
cruelty period. It’s time man woke up and realize
we share this earth.

Dr. Jones,

A no-kill shelter near us seems to have Labradoodles often. Though I do agree that Portuguese water hounds are never seen. We have adopted two dogs from this shelter and will look for a shelter dog when we are looking for another addition to our family and have talked about getting a larger dog like a Labradoodle. My husband and I are also allergic and so look for the low allergenic mutts. Our curent little girl, a Lhasa-Bichon-Shitzu mix a (LaBiShitz) is the sweetest!

One of Obama’s daughters is allergic to pet dander, so the family has to make a choice from hypoallergenic dog breeds. I don’t think Obama is casting aside the idea of a mutt or of any other breed, but he has to consider his daughter’s health. Also, we know of a local Ohio Labradoodle Rescue, so there are rescue people out there who will have these dogs for President Elect Obama, and they will be dogs who have been cast aside and who have no home. Let’s all hope that he chooses to use a rescue or a shelter to find his new pet, and he will then still give an unwanted dog a new loving forever-home.
