‘World’s Ugliest Dog’ Miss Ellie dies at 17

By Dr. Andrew Jones

Ugliest Dog Dies

In this June 26, 2009 file photo, Miss Ellie celebrates her win in the “World’s Ugliest Dog Contest” at the Sonoma-Marin Fair, in Petaluma, Cal

PIGEON FORGE, Tenn. – Miss Ellie, a small, bug-eyed Chinese Crested Hairless dog whose pimples and lolling tongue helped her win Animal Planet’s “World’s Ugliest Dog” contest in 2009, has died at age 17 after a career in resort show business in the Smoky Mountains.

The Mountain Press reported Thursday that Ellie starred in shows at the Comedy Barn in Pigeon Forge.

She also appeared on The Animal Planet cable show “Dogs 101” and was on billboards and in a commercial.

Pigeon Forge Mayor Keith Whaley proclaimed Nov. 12 as “Miss Ellie Day” for her owner’s efforts to raise money for the local humane society. Over the years, Ellie helped raise more than $100,000 for the Sevier County Humane Society.

She will be cremated.

I’m so sorry for the loss of Miss Ellie. I’m sure she was loved and had a wonderful life. I lost my 18 yr old sweet Heidi 4 months ago and I know how hard it is to lose a part of your family after so many good years together. I’m sure you and Heidi will have fun at the Bridge. Rest in Peace.

Well, I have to say, Miss Ellie went out in style. I know her “parents” are grieving, but they can take comfort in knowing she had a happy and loving home for 17 long years, and has now crossed over the Rainbow Bridge, waiting to be re-united with her human family. We all know what this kind of loss feels like. God keep Miss Ellie !

    Hi online vet,

Me also am very sorry for the loss of such a sweet pet. Further I’m disappointed that pampering isn’t too simple. Were can you get all those products?

I already decided to sell my Persian for 80 £ or $, you may even choose, but WITHOUT SHIPPING COSTS. Picture see my blog.

In any case, thanks for pain.

    Miss Ellie was beautiful !!
My 13 year old Chihuahua has a lolling tongue just like that…He is a rescue and only has 3 teeth, but he is the most handsome boy in the world to me

RIP Miss Ellie, and thank you for sharing your beautiful soul with us and raising all that money for the homeless fur babies.
My sincere condolences to your grieving parents.
God bless you for giving her a wonderful life.
