Can Your Pet Eat People Food?

Can my pet eat people food ? Or am I harming her (at least according to my vet)..

Great question, and here are my thoughts.

No one knows what the perfect pet food is… some foods have too much, or too few nutrients. Then there are the aflatoxins ( toxins in moldy grain), other contaminants.
Currently 600 dogs have died from contaminated jerky treats, 8500 dogs were reported to have died during the pet food recall

Then there are the increasing common diseases such as cancer, diabetes, allergies, obesity, immune mediated disease, and their link to diet

What we do know is that certain ingredients in ‘people’ food can be healthier than what is in your dog or cat’s kibble.

Ingredients such as artificial preservatives, artificial color, artificial flavor, flavor ‘enhancers’, by products and ‘meal’ which can legally contain dead, dying, diseased and disabled animals.

Here is what should be in your pet’s food:

1. High quality protein
2. Minimal and healthy carbohydrates.
3. Healthy fats, better fiber, more nutrient dense green vegetables.-

So what then can you be adding?

My top 5 include: table scraps, vegetables and fruit, the healthy omega 3 fat, natural probiotics found in yoghurt, and eggs

I regularly feed my own pets ( 2 dogs and 2 cats) people food. They all get yoghurt, my dogs get stew once or twice a week, and my cats get yummy raw chicken!
