Jesse Died
Sad news.
Jesse, my 18 year old dog who has been sick with a variety of ailments, died on Saturday.
He was euthanized comfortably at home with the rest of his family present.. he still wagged his tail that morning, but after a short walk to pee, was unable to stand.
Jesse came to us after my father died in 2010…at the time he was thought to be not the best behaved dog, and the sound of my dad yelling JESSE was heard by ALL the neighbors frequently…
But he seemed to choose me..immediately after my dad died he jumped into the back of our vehicle, assuming he was to come home with me…and he did
He turned out to be a great dog..
He bonded with all of us, although he tended to follow me around, even waiting to go upstairs to bed until he saw me coming up the stairs..
Jesse walked with our kids to the bus/school..barked to warn us of threats from attacking squirrels..chased away the evil skunks ( which led to a BIG supply of skunk off)
He went running/mountain biking with me, and as little as a year and a half ago went for a 50K run.
He was filled with personality, always talking when he wanted food, or thought he should be having attention instead of something else..
Whenever I hugged my wife Catherine, he would go off with his rrrrrrrrrrrrrr dog talking as if to say..don’t hug her…hug me 🙂
You would think it gets easier as pets get older..unfortunately not.
But he added so much to me and my family, and I am so glad he came to us.
Jesse you were much loved, and will be really missed.

I’m so sorry for your lose of Jessie. He was loved and cared for all those years and he returned you his love. I know you will hurt for him at different times in your life as you think back on all the good times with him. I’m glad you have another dog that will help in easing that pain.
So sorry for your loss…but happy that you and Jesse had those years together…and that he passed in the loving embrace of your family.. We lost our 11.5year-old Moose, a Great Dane, recently…a year and a half after his dear companion Pepper, an 11yr old Dane had passed…and it is so heart-wrenching still.sometimes I think I hear him in the next room..or I get that little flush of excitement when coming home because he will greet me..but no..His time has passed…The cats looked for him..one still sleeps on his bed frequently..and there is an empty place where he would be. We nearly got a rescue dog the other day..but the application process was so lengthy and time-consuming…and we so wanted to just walk away with a rescued dog…WE know the extremes we will go to for our dogs…I cooked for Moose and Pepper for years..to help them through illnesses…cancer, congestive heart failure…but..the rescue people need to do their due diligence.oh well..it dampened our spirit and we left without the dog…but perhaps another day…we shall see. Anyway..back to YOU and your Jesse…I am so sorry for the loss….Jesse was a lucky guy..as were you…those bonds are so incredible…and you will treasure always that connection..of course you know that. The depth of sorrow we feel is the measure of how deeply we let ourselves love our dogs, cats…pets…and that is the precious gift these creatures bestow upon us. Jesse…fly free now…

Jesse finished his life in a good place – with you. It’s never easy to lose any of them, but some animals are just more special to us than others. RIP Jesse!

I am so sorry to hear about Jesse passing on. He lived a great life with you and your family, and that is what matters and he will always be remembered. It is so sad to see our pets get older and then arthritis or cancer takes over their active bodies. Just six months ago we had to say goodbye to a beautiful Golden Retriever named Arnie who lived next door to us and was either here every day playing with our black lab or at his house. Our dog still does not know why Arnie is not here anymore. Arnie was only 2 years old when he got cancer. But, dogs grieve too and our dog still looks for him. We have had cats for 16-15 years and larger dogs for 12 years, and it never fails on how sad we all are when it comes to say goodbye. Take care and know how much your Jesse loved you all.

So sad and yet what a joyful life he had! They come to us and become a full part of the family. The pain stings but then the beautiful memories fill our hearts. I have loved and lost several children(pets) thought out my life, but lost 3 grown indoor cats in one week from different ailments because of grief for each one. This was absolutely one of my hardest hurts in one weeks time, but now I can enjoy the beautiful memories each one left in my heart. Prayers for you all

So sorry for your loss but I know Jesse knew and felt he was loved ’til the end. I know how painful it is to lose someone who have been with you for so long. Dogs are not just animals. They are family members too. And if there is one lesson I’ve learned from them…its the uncoditional love and loyalty they bestow to you. Love and take care of them……no matter how long you have not seen each other, the love and loyalty iare still there.
Jesse you will be missed but run free now to the doggie everland and someday all of us will be together.

So sorry Andrew. We understand how you and the family must feel. The huge consolation is that Jesse had a good run and will always be part of you. In my experience, suffering the loss of a human friend becomes bearable but the pain of losing every dog refuses to go away.

Sorry for your loss of Jesse. It can’t be easy for you and your family even when you know it is the right thing to do. Think of Jesse with your dad, telling him all kinds of stories about what a good dog he was and stories about all of you. Hold the good memories.
I think it’s more difficult to let them go the longer they’re with us. We just expect them to go on forever, in a way. What we should focus on is that there is so much life in every day for them, where as we tend to focus forward, as in some day we’ll do something. But our days are a means to an end, viewing them as a series of menial tasks until the week-end, a vacation or retirement. Jesse’s 18 years here were richer than most human’s lives and he’ll be there, waiting for you. He is blessed.
A loss is always tough, even when you KNOW what a great life you gave Jesse at your home. Jesse can now stand and run again, so he’s all set! The hole is in your hearts though. I hope you and your family give yourselves time to heal. (I also wonder what cute dog Jesse will lead you to when the time is right.)

What a wonderful dog, Jesse! You gave him many many wonderful years and he gave you and your family the same. That is so precious. As well as being cute, he had a cute personality and how special of you to have let it shine and appreciate everything about him. I think that made your dad smile. Now the hardest part is missing him. That pain though will gradually turn into loving memories. What a fortunate dog! You are obviously so very caring and giving. How wonderful to have had so many years with Jesse. My Daisy is now 16 1/2 and I treasure every second with her. It’s such a privilege to share my life with a happy, mostly healthy, senior dog. She is so wise and special that everyone she meets (human or canine) feels blessed. I know Jesse gave you the same incredibly bitter-sweet joy, and I cry with you as you remember.

oh my…so sorry to know that, it suddenly brings deja vu on my part loosing 2 dogs on different mos. it really breaks my heart everytime i hear or read about dogs dying/died. but for Jesse he’s a lucky dog bec. he had a family, what about those who doesn’t? Anyways, I know Jessie is a one big happy dog now, no more pain…only happiness running and playing.

We are saddened to hear of the loss of such a wonderful companion. I remember when you lost your dad and Jessie adopted you immediately as his new family. I saw the video you made last week and knew in my heart that his time was near. The loss of a companion is never easy and we will remember all the things we did together. We have an area set aside in our yard for our pet cemetery and and have buried 5 of our family companions over the years. Perhaps God will send another special companion for your family to bless with your love, care, and companionship. Losing this beloved pet is like losing a family member, because that is what he was and always will be. I have lost beloved pets through the years, all from “old age” except for my beloved Shih Tzu, Me-Tu who was poisoned by the Iams dog food eight years ago. I immediately got Macy who is now eight years old, not as a “replacement” but to fill the void in my heart. I believe in the Rainbow Bridge and just know, he will be waiting for you with a wet kiss and open arms. Much sympathy to you and your family.

76yr young AR, ex.USN Medical Deep Sea Diving Technician. 1967-68 witnessed as part of training the following.Subject: dog connected to EKG machine, man carried dog into pool-EKG registered anxiety(waves on ekg-(interpetation), man played with dog in water-happiness. But then man held dog underwater extreme fear,anxiety to panic!! then dog died. While still underwater the brain wave continued for another 17 minutes. Henceforth whenever one of my dogs died(usually they come and lay at my feet). Have gotten down on floor with them and in calm soothing voice told them they are a gooood dog and i love them(by name)for at least twenty minutes and at same time lovingly petted and rubbed their ear tip. It hurt me at that time in the pool and really, really hurts when my own dies average life span of my dogs about 13.5 to 16 longest.The experiment was done to find out if brain function continues after body dies, relating to all (ALL) warm blooded animals. Imagine in the past centuries where people were hung, or beheaded…still thinking. Thus when i had to put down one of my dogs (accidentally) ran over his stomach after i got the 20 gauge and shot him in the head so he would not suffer any more. Now you know a truth, proven by science. Remember the good times with Jesse and he will always be with you. A friend.

So sorry to see that Jesse passed away. Brought tears to my eyes! I know the void they leave in your heart. To this day we still think of our “Tequila” that died in my arms four years ago. It is heart wrenching. Jesse had a good life must be our consolation now that he is gone. That void in your heart can never be replaced by another dog, you must have to move on and love a new companion as much without forgetting what Jesse brought to your life and your family.

my heart goes out to you on the loss of Jessie. I agree it does NOT get easier with an older dog, having lost 16 year old(Cairn Terrier) and 15 year old(Dachshund) dogs over the years. I dread the day my current beloved black German Shepherd Dog,(Elsa) leaves me, but am thankful to the Lord for giving me her delightful company and companionship in the meantime. It is very painful to us to lose a pet of any kind and you did your best for Jesse taking care of him and he lived to a nice old age too. It was nice all family members were present when he went, I feel our pets would prefer it that way as they always like everyone to be around them when they are living. He will always be with you and your family in your hearts and thoughts. Your other dogs and cats will be grieving to in their way. Sincere condolences and also thank your for sharing all of your pets lives with everyone.

I cryed when I was reading your short note, I know what it’s like to lose your animal I’ve gone through it, my cat Dazy-girl just turned 15 and has some problems not sure how long she will last. She has some meds will see how things will go. I miss all my animals, we get so attached to them they are part of yours and mine family that is. Don’t know if animals go to heaven I sure hope so. Jessie is truly an angel dog. I’ve loved every video and demonstration he’s given with you. In my eyes he’s a super star and I love him. He’s absolutely NAILED, and continues to, the highest attributes a soul can achieve which puts him right up there in sainthood…he’s been an awesome practitioner of devotion, forgiveness, patience, service and unconditional love. And he’s been doing it a long time. 18 years! Extraordinary.

My dog, Blackie,a lab-shepherd-husky mix, used to talk to us, shake his head from side to side and snort when he wanted something, be in a bit of what we were eating or needing to go out to relieve himself. We had many a laugh with him and can still hear him, since he died in Sept. 2013…he was 13. Such a character he was, just like your Jessie! It’s good you still have another dog to hug!

Nothing can replace him but many other homeless dogs are looking for good homes and can give you as much love and devotion as Jesse did. We’ve lost two precious babies the past year to cancer and miss them so much. We recently adopted a 6 week old rescue from a puppy mill and he’s so active and been such a joy. We love him to pieces. Sorry, to hear about Jessie. We had two collies Rusty and Dannyrae, both passed away at the age of 14, three years apart. Miss them very much. We now have two paps ages 9 and 10 wish they could live forever, but of course they age faster then we do. Thank you so much for the great information you have out there for healing your pets at home the natural way. I love your book and use it all the time for Kodi and Dakota. I also email your emails to other friends and family who have pets, to sign up for your new letters. No other Vet is doing what you do, so I commend you and also take some of the emails to them to read, so maybe it won’t be so much about the money for them. (JOKE) Thanks again

So very sorry for your loss, Dr. Andrew. I know and feel your pain. I have always been a multi-pet family. Each one has their own personality, each death leaves a heartache. I have promised myself over and over I cannot go through this pain repeatedly, to take the rescues to the shelter, yet I again have 5 dogs and 2 cats. I love them dearly…. seven more heartaches to come, perhaps even more.

Any time I hear of a pet’s passing I get tears because I know that this was not just a pet, but a member of your family that was dearly loved and missed…..Jesse seems to have lived a long and full life where he loved those around him and knew he was loved. We have six Malteses, the parents who are 10 and the four kids that are 7….It makes me so sad to know that one day we will be apart – I can only look forward to when we are all together again at Rainbow Bridge. So sorry for your loss. I am going through something similar with my beloved dog, Nicholas. He is only 12 and has degenerative disk disease. We opted not to put him spinal surgery and the long recovery period at 12 years old. He is on meds to keep him comfortable, but it’s day to day.

Jesse became yours for a reason. It is no coincidence that dog spelt backwards, spells God. He sent Jesse to your dad and then onto you & your family to make you laugh, be happy and feel loved. However, not many people recognize that love, hence so many abandoned animals. But you and your dad did and may you be blessed for it. Jesse gave his love unconditionally to you which you & your family reciprocated and has now returned to heaven, where he will wait for you until you & your family go home as well. We now have Ruby, a 15 1/2 yr Mini Schnauzer, and her son Gerber 7yr (because he was the baby of the family —we had his Gramma (your patient– we drove from Vancouver to Nelson to see you), his two blind great uncles, his mama (Ruby)his big brother Mousse (cuz he was enormous, but sweet) a cat, and him. So he was the baby of the family, therefore “Gerber”, like the baby food. All of them had the benefit of your amazing supplement, your books and emails and advice and care.
I had many great talks with Michael when ordering product. I wrote to him about how proud your dad undoubtedly was of you two, being involved together in such a noble pursuit. I let him know that all of us who have followed your challenges, and courage, and honourable intent through the years are in step behind you. I have asked Ruby to stay as long as she can….she has liver disease, but your book has saved her in many a crisis. I told her today that Jesse stayed for 18 years, so she might like to consider that!!

I too had Iams related deaths. after the fifth one the vet said to me “are you feeding them Iams?” “yes, on your advice” apparently it was the preservatives they used. also lost one to the Nutro poisoning from the Chinese melamine. Thank goodness for Dr Jones, and his food awareness program!!! he is the watch dog who keeps them honest.

I grieve with you and your family. Just today we lost our beautiful cat, Ebony Cleopatra. She was fine at 1 am when I went to bed, but this morning when I got up she was having convulsions. I am so sorry to hear that Jesse has passed away. I am still fretting for my sister’s dog who also had to be euthanised just over a week ago. It was very sad also. Her son had rescued her from being hit with a large van in Calgary. She seemed to be a puppy farm ‘producer’ who might have escaped, she seemed utterly bewildered with her surroundings and was terrified of everything. My sister reluctantly took her in and later took her to Vancouver Island when she moved there about two years ago By then was her most precious friend. I was out there last year and bonded with Molly with no trouble. She had had ongoing health problems, however, and I tried to persuade my sister to put her on a home diet and order your supplement. Her vet said that she had had multiple pregnancies. Although undiagnosed, my guess is that she had chronic pancreatitis which progressed to cancer. After such a bad time it was tragic that she had not lasted longer in her found happiness. Still, she had six good years at least. No matter what, our furry friends never stay with us long enough. I will redirect this to my sister, who is blaming herself for not, as she sees it, doing enough. Thank you for all your advice and for sharing the sad as well as happy times with all of your family. Again I am so sorry. You have the consolation of knowing that Jesse had a long and happy life. I think that losing a pet can be as bad, if not worse, than losing family members….. M.

My vet told me on the day I had to euthanize my amazing, 23-year old kitty, that ‘the pain we feel at such times, is the price we pay for loving and having been loved so well during the years we spent together. I am so sorry for you and your family are going through such a loss. We all know the pain one goes through when they lose there beloved Fur Baby. You are no different. The good thing is that one can see them again when it is our time to cross, then we will see them all again.

So sad to learn of Jesse’s death but the memories will stay with you forever. Lost my Westie Sam at 18 a few years ago, but I still think of him with great affection even though I have other dogs. As the saying goes ‘Tis better to have loved and lost than never to have loved at all’.

So sorry to hear about the loss of your beloved Jesse. I know very well how you feel. My poor Pipa – a mix terrier – had to be put to sleep yesterday. She had a big tumour on her uterus that already spread into her belly. Plus she had arthrosis. The vet said that she would not survive surgery. I had no other choice but “let her go”. I could see how she suffered during the past weeks since May. Now she is in heaven and has no pain any more. Pipa met her sister who was shot in a field near my house by a hunter in 2012. Pipa and Joana were only digging for mice… Pipa could have been shot as well but she escaped and run home. Now all dogs including your brave Jesse meet in heaven. They remain in our hearts forever. Writing this with tears in my eyes…
This is never easy, and it never gets easier. At least you know that Jesse had a lot of love, and that you were there, for him, till the end. My prayers are with you and your family at this sad time.

Dr. Andrew and Family…I am so very sorry for your loss. Having lost my Lab at the end of May due to Cushings Disease and other ‘age related’ issues-I know the pain you are experiencing. I was fortunate not to have had to euthanize. I carried her for the last two months on a full body harness while the specialists tried to figure out how to address each issue. I was extremely close to this dog, as she had gotten me through some of my own serious health issues. I would have done anything for her. She will always remain in my heart…as I know Jesse will remain in yours.

Very sorry to hear of Jessie’s death, I an sure you tried everything possible to save him, but sometimes we cannot discover the real cure for our pets problems and often it is best to put them out of their misery/pain, I know only too well having to do so with our Chin-Chin 2years ago, and now we are having problens with our second pekineses dog,Gizmo who is 11 years old and has difficulty walking, despite our vets efforts, he is not at all happy to go walkies, simply goes pee, and sits down or lays down on the grass and refuses to walk much at all, our vet has tried steroids, which have made him less inactive but it appears he has some spinal problems and limps on left front leg, and sometimes seems to drag his left rear leg a little, vet feels he may well have a neurological problem too, so we do not know how much longer we can keep him going we will see, bot dogs have had spinal problems, and one vet thought it was caused by too close inter-breeding, mind you Gizmo had spinal problems 5 years ago and with cage rest recovered well
I felt your sadness…. this is sometimes the reason why i am hesitate to have one after the losing of my 11-year KIKIT.. still mourning after 6 years
My Sympathies to you and your family. – I understand completely why you would share this with your subscribers: because they’ve all felt it at one time or another with one kind of pet or another. Our pets are more than just pets. They are Family. Each is as individual as people are, and behave with the same Human-like reactions as Humans do. The more we can understand their modes of communication, the more we can make ourselves understood by them; and the result is a harmony, exchange & love that can only complete us as mature, rational & loving managers/caretakers of our animal counterparts. – Again, my condolences. It’s always best to turn one’s grief toward constructive efforts, which I’m sure you’re already aware of. New babies are always in need whether they’re young or older. And they give so much more back than one can ever give them. Look forward.

I am so sorry you lost Jesse. His life touched me and all my dogs as well. You shared so much of your love and care for Jesse that it taught me many things that I need to do for my 5. I found you after the unnecessary death of my 12 yr old cairn, Belita. Your life, your wisdom and your caring for all of us who have never met you and Jesse changed our lives for the better–much better!! And I feel no one will mind me speaking for them!! I’ve always believed that our doggies live such a relatively short life is because they give us SOOO much of themselves, that they just expire. Nothing against birds, but whose idea was it to have birds live to 100 while our fur babies pass at 18, if we’re lucky?
