Good morning folks.

This is a long weekend in Canada, we celebrated Canada Day
yesterday, but I have the misfortune of being “On Call”.

Many, many emergencies.

And one very disturbing one.

I had a call from an owner who was travelling with their dog
tied into the back of their truck.

But tied with a long leash.

The dog jumped out and was dragged a significant distance.

The police even phoned me as they had reports of a dog being dragged.

The police officer saw bloody prints for a 2 mile distance on the road.

So what happened?

The owners feel horrible- they are dedicated pet owners who had a big
loss of judgment.

The small terrier showed up at the clinic with signs of shock, and severe
skin abrasions on all 4 paws, and the face.

From what I have seen, there are no broken bones, and I expect the small terrier
to make a full recovery.

And what do I take from this?

1. Don’t travel with dogs in the back of a truck. If you insist on this, get
a canopy for your truck so your dog can’t jump out.

2. Learn some emergent and urgent care techniques.
