YouTubers Euthanize their Dog Unnecessarily?

YouTuber Nikki Phillippi and husband Dan Phillippi faced severe backlash when they revealed to Nikki’s 1.3 million subscribers that they euthanized their 9-year-old bull terrier, Bowser.

In what they said this was a difficult decision, Nikki and Dan put Bowser down after Bowser bit their young son, they said they had no other choice. This lead to a lot of backlash online.

It came out that their son had attempted to take food away from Bowser, and this is when he bit them, this was not a case of random aggression. It left a mark on their son’s face, and that there was a history of Bower being defensive and with aggressive behavior towards other dogs.

Pitbull Terriers are generally great with people, and claimed they spoke with someone at a humane society who told them it’s almost impossible to rehome a pet with a history like this, and that they would always be liable for any issues because of Bowser’s background. Not sure if this is completely true or not – challenging, maybe, but not impossible.

They are now facing plenty of backlash online. Setting boundaries is very important with pets, as well as plenty of training and an owner that will work hard with them. It’s not an easy fix, but it’s important for safety.

I’ve had pet owners come in for smaller issues wanting their pets euthanized, for convenience. There are an array of organizations that would have helped them.

I can understand that perhaps Bowser did not fit into their family, but he could have been rehomed. It is a difficult decision.

This is a tough subject. What would you do?
