Thanks all for your replies yesterday.
Many of you sent in de-smelling formulas.
Here is one sent in by Lori- I have used
it on one VERY SMELLY dog, and it worked
well.
Here is the recipe:
RECIPE FOR REMOVING SKUNK SPRAY
Mix 1 litre of 3 per cent hydrogen peroxide with
1/4 cup baking soda and 1 tsp. liquid dish detergent.
Wash item affected (dog, gear, etc.) and rinse with
plenty of water. A second treatment a day or two
later is required to completely remove the smell.
It is safe to use on your pets; however, it is
CRITICAL that this mixture not be put in a sealed
container as it will develop explosive levels of gas.
NB: This is from the BC Trapper, a newsletter for
the BC Trappers’ Association. They swear that it
works for defusing skunk spray and it has also been
confirmed by a representative of the CO Service.
I also thought that you are due for an
update on the Second Chance Animal Shelter.
You guys responded fabulously when Second
Chance was in need of funds, and now things
are going MUCH BETTER. The director of the
Shelter, Sherry, had her BIGGEST adoption
day yesterday with 7 dogs and cats adopted.
She had people waiting over 1 hour to talk to
her and adopt a pet.
She has done a GREAT job of raising the profile
of our small shelter, and is adopting a HUGE
number of dogs and cats to forever, loving
homes.
Unfortunately there is a few people on the
Board of Directors of Second Chance that
don’t especially like Sherry, and are making her
life more difficult. A few of those on the
Board are running it more like their own private
company, when in fact it is a Charitable
Society whose goal is to adopt unwanted
dogs and cats.
I rent space to the shelter, and financially support
the shelter, but I am not on the Board of Directors
so I don’t have a lot of input.
I did establish the shelter, and after having 4 different
shelter directors, I can say that Sherry is by far the
MOST EFFECTIVE one in getting the Shelter known in
the community, and adopting MORE pets.
AND that is what matters most- PERIOD.
BUT politics gets in the way, and others don’t
see it my way.
So what to do??
I am hoping for an Annual General Meeting Soon- but they have
until the end of the year to have one.
At that time we could get a new Board, in support of
Sherry.
My fear is that she could just quit- and as far as
I see, that is what the Board would like.
If any of you have suggestions, I would love to hear
them.
